Water Spirit

Russell Brown

$220

A deep waterhole lies hidden within the dense bush, its surface smooth and dark beneath the pale light of the moon. At the water’s edge, a man stands entranced, drawn forward by the lingering echo of a song that still trembles in the night air.

From the depths, a figure rises—half-shadow, half-moonlight. Her hair floats like riverweed around her. Eyes like liquid gold hold him captive, one slender arm stretches toward him, fingers curling as if beckoning him closer.

The water swirls gently at his feet, lapping at his legs as if eager to pull him in. His hand twitches at his side, caught between reaching back and resisting. In the depths below, something stirs—dark and coiled, waiting. The night is thick with unseen things.

The moment hangs, fragile as a ripple on the water. The song has ended, but its spell lingers. One step forward, and he will be lost.
